Abstract

It is well known that vacuum-swept quartz crystals do not show dislocation etch pits upon etching, whereas X-ray topographic studies show that the dislocation network remains the same. A model is presented to show that there is no preferential dissolution by the etchant at the dislocation sites in vacuum-swept crystals.
