Abstract

NiO was one of the most utilized anode materials in glucose sensing, however, it suffers from inherent poor electronic conductivity and associated limited catalytic performance. In this paper, Mn-doped NiO nanosheets supported on carbon cloth (Mn–NiO NSs/CC) was prepared via annealing NiMn-layered double hydroxide (NiMn LDH) under air condition. As 3D integrated electrode, Mn–NiO NSs/CC shows superior catalytic activity towards glucose oxidation, and holds great potential in glucose sensitive sensing. Mn–NiO NSs/CC displays high performance, with a wide linear range from 2.0 μM to 2.14 mM, a high sensitivity of 3.53 mA mM−1 cm−2, and a low detection limit of 0.6 μM (S/N = 3). Additional, Mn–NiO NSs/CC shows excellent selectivity and reliability for glucose detection in sports beverages. This work provides a simple method for boosting NiO catalytic activity in glucose sensing, and builds a sensitive glucose sensor for food analysis.
