Abstract

This paper focuses on the performance parameters estimation of a patch antenna in their ultra wideband region. In particular, a special attention intended for FRNB characterisation for WLAN at 5.15-5.825 GHz, bandwidth enhancement, and size reduction. The fractal and PMGS techniques help to keep VSWR < 2. A CSCP antenna excited by a 50 ohm CPW-feed embedded with an N-shaped FRNB is examined and experimentally tested. With this design, the attainable impedance bandwidth is about 138% (S11 < &minus;10 dB) in the UWB range. This antenna is fabricated on FR4 substrate having dielectric constant εr = 4.3, thickness t = 1.53 mm, loss tangent tan δ = 0.0162, and effective conductivity at f0(S/m) = 0.0042. The simulated and experimental results are found valid. This antenna is very useful in UWB wireless communications in their band pass and band stop characterisation.
