Abstract

The all-dielectric coding metamaterial is obtained by encoding the unit structures constructed of conventional absorbing material. The combined effects of absorption and scattering to electromagnetic waves provide noteworthy application in reducing the radar cross section (RCS). In this Letter, utilizing the T i O 2 / C N T s material, we designed two types of hollow dielectric elements and coded them in a checkerboard format after calculation and analysis. The experimental results manifest that the frequency range where the RCS reduction is less than − 10 d B covers from 5.3 to 18 GHz. The design of the hollow structure and the selection of low-density material make the all-dielectric coding metamaterial a small surface density. Additionally, the design of coding the all-dielectric elements will have potential application in radar stealth.
