Abstract

A novel type of metasurface based on square ring patch is proposed, designed and demonstrated for ultrawideband radar cross section (RCS) reduction. The proposed metasurface consists of two different unit cells based on square ring patch. By precisely design the geometric parameter of the square ring patch of this two unit cells, a 180°±37° reflection phase difference between them is obtained in ultra-wide frequency bandwidth. The full-wave simulated result shows that the proposed metasurface could realize more than 8.6 dB RCS reduction from 8.778 to 24.916 GHz and a high relative bandwidth (95.7%) under normal incidence waves. The proposed metasurface with the simple structure and the excellent RCS reduction performance can be used widely in radar stealth or other application in the future.
