Abstract

The article discusses the peculiarities of modern distance teaching and learning methods and technologies, including their advantages and disadvantages, compared to the classical education. In particular, the communicative environment and academic culture as determinants of university education are considered as less obvious for the distance teaching and learning, which makes it difficult to establish and operate with a common university language and communication. Besides, the specifics of academic culture and communication of foreign students, sometimes makes the process of teaching via distance technologies less effective, taking into consideration such phenomena as plagiarism and cheating. The article discusses the example of Iranian students in Yerevan State University of Armenia focusing on their communication to teachers, and their habits while using on–line technologies in order to pass exams and study through distance–learning.
