Abstract

As a new technology, vortex beams which might effectively solve the problem of lacking wireless spectrum resources and may pave a new way for wireless communication have a great potential for MIMO. A new method to generate electromagnetic field with orbital angular momentum(OAM) using a circular waveguide at 2.4 GHz is introduced here. Firstly, through a theoretical analysis of TEmn and TMmn modes in circular waveguide, it is shown that electromagnetic wave with OAM of order m(a non-zero integer) can be formed by mode combination. Then, a simulation example of a waveguide with two feeds of ±90° phase difference is presented in this paper, which works in multimode area and can transmit electromagnetic wave with OAM order of ±1, ±2, and ±3.
