Abstract

This paper aims to explain the motives of education in Archipelago (Indonesia) since prehistory until the contemporary period. Whether the motives of education in archipelago have changes every period? Or it just shows the continuity? The author attempt to look this phenomenon on historical perspective with peruses some literature such as books, articles, archives and online magazine. This paper finds out that the motive of education in Archipelago has been changed from the prehistory period until the colonial period (from practice to economic motive). Since colonial to the contemporary period we can find the continuity about the motive, that is the economic motives to produce a worker. That phenomenon still continuous until today.
