Abstract

An exemplary circuitry designed for the multi-layer ring (as well as sphere) PET system of 16 rings with each ring consisting of 384 detectors is analyzed and its expected performance is studied. Priority encoders and multiplexing techniques are used throughout and the final memory groups are divided into several groups so that each group can handle fractional incident coincidence counts, thus increasing the total detection speed. The total coincidence count rate which can be handled with the proposed circuit is up to 14.4 × 10 6 counts/s with less than 1% coincidence count loss.
