Abstract
Alcohol dependency and abuse is common, about 6.5% of the adult population. More than 100,000 people die from alcohol-related causes. Men outnumber women at treatment centers at about 4:1. Adolescent drug use peaks in the 18- to 25-year-old group, which tends to abuse alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana.
