Abstract

In this work, superconducting samples of type (Cu 0.5Tl 0.5)-1223 added by nano-SnO 2 (0.0–1.0 wt.%) were prepared by solid-state reaction technique. The prepared samples were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) for phase analysis and microstructure examination, respectively. Room temperature microhardness measurements were carried out at different applied loads (0.49–2.94 N) for studying the performance of the mechanical properties of the studied samples. Furthermore, the experimental results of microhardness measurements were analyzed using different models in order to show the effect of nano-SnO 2 addition on microhardness and elastic modulus.
