Abstract

This paper reports accurate measurements of the changes in electrical resistivity produced by the f.c.c. to f.c.t. (c/a>1) phase transformations in In-Cd, In-Pb and In-Tl alloys. It was found that, in the vicinity of the transformation temperature, In-Cd alloys show a step-like decrease in the electrical resistivity ρ(T); In-Pb alloys show a broad minimum ρ(T); and In-Tl alloys, show hardly any change in ρ(T) corresponding to the phase transformation. It was also found that, during the f.c.c.→f.c.t. transformation, the temperature coefficient α=(1/ρ)(d ρ/dT) increases for In-Cd alloys but is constant for In-Tl alloys. The results on α are discussed using the resistivity formula including the electron-phonon spectral function αtr2(ω)F(ω).
