Abstract

The results of the measurements of ultrasonic speed in liquid methane near the saturation line and in the metastable (superheated) region are given. The experiments have been carried out along ten isotherms in the range 150 to 183 K. The results are described analytically. Ultrasonic speed has been determined at the line of the liquid-methane attainable superheats. Absence of singularities in the first, second, and third derivatives of the thermodynamic potential in going from the stable region into the metastable one has been shown by experiment.
