Abstract

MCrAlY coatings were deposited on fixed and rotating substrates by cathodic vacuum arc evaporation using three different cathode compositions. The compositions of the front and back surfaces of the fixed blades differ much more from that of the cathode material than do those of the rotating blades. Typical multiphase structures are formed during homogenization of the coatings. The bond strength of the coatings is comparable with that of a coating prepared by low pressure plasma spraying. A multilayer coating (Nb/Cu/MCrAlY) was deposited in one coating cycle.
