Abstract
We have investigated hetero-epitaxial growth of MnAs on oxide substrates such as SrTiO 3 and Al 2O 3. Growth of MnAs on STO (0 0 1) starts with the three-dimensional mode while that on Al 2O 3 (1 1 2 ̄ 0) is dominated by the step flow mode. MnAs on these oxides shows ferromagnetic properties. We have also succeeded in the fabrication of MnAs nano-wires on Al 2O 3 (1 1 2 ̄ 0) substrates.
