Abstract

We have designed and built very unique devices for synthesis and crystal growth of the oxide ceramic materials. Their designs are based on the floating piston (FP), the gas trap (GT) and the tube-like pressure chamber with coaxial Al 2 O 3 crucibles. Special attention has been focused on the safety operation of all devices. The FP high pressure system allows for crystallization at high pressure of pure oxygen up to 0.7GPa. The GT system can operate at pressure up to 1.0GPa. However, its live volume is smaller it is more user friendly in comparison to the FP device. Our aim is to investigate the phase transitions under the high oxygen pressure, especially in the YBaCuO system, as well as in the other oxide systems. During the test runs both, FP and GT systems, have resulted in producing crystals of the 1–2–4 phase.
