Abstract

This research work deals with material energy absorption capability by crushing mode process and its effects on composite materials. Tubes are fabricated using natural jute fibre as reinforcement material and epoxy as matrix material. This tube was tested under mechanical impact and compression. Tests were conducted with different chamfer angles and geometry of the tubes. Circular cross-section tubes were crushed at crushing speed from 5 to 10 m/s. Energy absorption was increased when decreasing the diameter and thickness of the tube. The results of natural jute fibre-reinforced epoxy composite tubes were better than other composites in energy absorption and crushing effects.
