Wang, P. and Zhang, Q., 2020. Marine shipping performance evaluation of 34 coastal ports in China under the One Belt and One Road initiative. In: Wan, Z. (ed.), Coordinated Sustainable Development in Coastal Areas: Environment and Economy. Journal of Coastal Research, Special Issue No. 109, pp. 132–138. Coconut Creek (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208.With the rapid development of economy, China has also encountered new obstacles. Since 2013, China has promoted the One Belt and One Road initiative to carry out a new round of economic and trade strategies. What is the impact of the Belt and Road initiative on maritime shipping? Based on the statistical data of 34 major ports in China from 2010 to 2017, this paper analyzes the impact of One Belt and One Road promotion on the number of active ships at sea, gross tonnage of ships at sea, the operation situation, and the tourism situation in coastal areas. The empirical results show that the promotion of One Belt and One Road has a positive impact on the shipping industry of China's coastal ports, which shows that the overall marine industrial scale will increase due to the promotion of One Belt and One Road.
