Abstract

ABSTRACT A descriptive analysis of marathon group therapy was conducted, specifying issues of set-up, screening, preparation, start-up, introduction to group process, facilitating therapeutic moments throughout the weekend, termination, and follow-up. Factors and dynamics unique to this modality are outlined for marathon groups in university counseling centers. A description of advantages and disadvantages and evaluation data from participating members are provided. Implications for the revitalization of this modality within and potentially beyond the scope of university counseling centers are addressed.
