Abstract

Barbara J. Stevens, R.N., A.A.N., Ph.B., M.A., on leave of absence from The University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics, is presently a doctoral student in the Department of Education, University of Chicago. Mrs. Stevens identifies issues that should be addressed by groups considering the mandating of continuing education for professional nurse relicensure. She examines the objectives offered for legislating continuing education, discusses the problems anticipated in implementing licensure laws, and stresses the need for careful consideration of all aspects before decision-making on the issue.
