Abstract

The career opportunities issue of CHEMICAL AND ENGINEERING NEWS has as its principal objective to give the younger people of our industry, and in particular those who are recent college graduates, a broad acquaintance with and knowledge of the chemical industry. Since I am a relatively new member of top management it may be somewhat presumptuous of me to have agreed to write this article. Nonetheless, having agreed, I am prepared to express a few thoughts on the subject of management as a career. My freshman management status may place me in a particularly good position to appreciate and comment on some of the problems you may face as you launch your career. I know of no industry that offers more opportunity and challenge than the chemical industry.
