Abstract

As in many chronic and degenerative pathologies, the end of life constitutes an essential issue in Parkinson's disease. Many health professionals, neurologists or not, are faced with this problem. In this article, we offer a sharing of points of view from experts from different fields of neurology, pharmacy, geriatrics and palliative care. During this period, the medical and human management appears difficult; dopaminergic treatment should never be suspended, because other therapies are possible, in particular injectable treatments are now available. The management of critical periods and the end of life must be anticipated. Caregivers must fearlessly overcome their reluctance to address these issues before decompensations occur. The multidisciplinary approach is now the “gold standard” of palliative care for patients and their family. The resources exist: neurologists, mobile palliative care units and teams, geriatricians, pharmacists, home care providers, home hospitalization.
