Abstract

Abstract A 3D dispersion model has been constructed in order to simulate the dispersion in marine scenarios of conservative nuclear contaminants originated in accidents or industrial releases. The model has been validated taken the Baltic Sea as the physical scenario, and selecting the 137 Cs with origin in the Chernobyl accident as the substance that experimented the dispersion. In this paper special emphasis is given to the description of the original approach developed for the independent treatment in the model of the advective and diffusive transport affecting any contaminant in marine ecosystems. This original approach is based on the use of Monte Carlo techniques.
