Abstract
Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) provides a non-invasive method of investigating impaired oxidative metabolism, for example in ischaemia or in specific types of metabolic disease. This article provides a brief outline of the ways in which 31P and1H MRS can be used to investigate impairments of oxidative metabolism in skeletal muscle and in brain.
