Abstract
Among the brilliant constellation of Russian scholars of the turn of the century, M. M. Kovalevskii is one whose name was widely known in Russia and Europe as an outstanding researcher and public figure. Endowed with vast talent and a colossal capacity for work, Kovalevskii concerned himself with questions of world history, Russian history, the history of law, the general theory of government and law, the economic and social life of Western Europe, ethnography, and the history of the labor movement.
