Abstract

As a first-hand material to study and understand Confucianism, “Lun Yu”played an important role in the spread of Confucian culture. Since the 18th century, when the Russian Empire started sending its missionaries to China, Russian sinologists have continued to work on the interpretation and translation of the “Lun Yu” treatise. Their translations can be characterized as diverse. The results of research made by Russian sinologists had a positive impact on the spread of Confucianism and even traditional Chinese culture in Russia. This article provides a brief overview of the history of translation and spread of “Lun Yu” in Russia and analyzes the problems of its reception.
