Abstract

The mean electron polarizabilities and the mean magnetic susceptibilities of the aliphatic C–C and C–H bonds, together with their anisotropies, have been combined with the Kirkwood and Gans—Mrowka equations, and this set of equations has been solved for the longitudinal and transverse bond polarizabilities and susceptibilities. The best values for these quantities, obtained by a least-squares treatment, as well as the electric and magnetic anisotropies are discussed and compared with the respective quantities derived theoretically and semiempirically.
