Abstract

Abstract Anomalous relaxation and thermal hysteresis effects in the incommensurate phase of K2ZnCl4 were discussed. No clear fine discontinuous step-wise changes in ε were found even at the slow scanning speed of 0.001 K/min. Dielectric constants follow an empirical stretched exponential decay rather than a Debye-type decay. An intrinsic process of kinetic evolution of nucleation and annihilation of discommensurations and an extrinsic process of DDW diffusion with a wide distribution of relaxation times were discussed.
