Abstract

This paper deals with internal migration trends in Denmark specifically inter-municipal migration in an area around Copenhagen in the years 1975 to 1980. The author suggests that although traditional causes of migration (such as employment education and housing) will remain important factors in the choice of a residential municipality the social services offered by a particular municipality will become increasingly significant. An example using the provision of places in day care institutions for children is provided to show that young couples may well be influenced to settle in municipalities with better services.
