Abstract

On three gloriously warm sunny days, 15–17 September 1982, approximately 80 scientists and engineers met in Southampton to talk about liquid crystals. This was the first meeting of the British Liquid Crystal Group – the newly formed discussion group – and no restrictions were placed on the subjects to be discussed, the only brief being that talks and posters should be concerned with some aspect of the liquid crystalline state.
