Abstract
Objectives: This research aimed to formulate strategies to leverage the potency of sport tourism in Sambangan Village in the North of Bali as an environmentally friendly tourism destination. Theoretical Framework: Sport tourism, SWOT analysis, rural tourism development, Framework of sports tourism service system. Method: This study was conducted in a qualitative research approach in two stages. The data for stage one was initially collected through observation and documentation studies. The second phase of the research was conducted by in-depth interviews. A purposive sampling technique was used to identify the key informants. Data analysis of this study used descriptive qualitative research, which was analyzed with an emphasis on interactive data analysis Results and Discussion: Results revealed that some sport tourism potencies have been developed such as Tracking, Canyoning, Mountain Biking and traditional sport such as Megoak Goakan and Mepantigan. Community and tourism stakeholders in Sambangan village are leveraged simultaneously to achieve a wide range of socio-economic outcomes, including increased activity in sport-tourism Research Implications: This research provides the information about the sport tourism development in rural areas in developed countries. This findings contributes to the literature that developing sport tourism can create social, cultural, artistic, economic, and environmental benefits. Originality/Value: The emerging body of knowledge has indicated The demand for sports tourism is becoming stronger, yet our understanding of how to develop sport tourism in rural areas, remains limited. Besides, empirical evidence from rural areas in Bali on sport tourism remains inadequate.
