Abstract

Objective: To report a case of cutaneous and intraoral lesions in widespread paracoccidioidomycosis. Case description: A male patient, aged 44, presenting weight loss for four months, frequent cough and fever, with diagnosis hypothesis of tuberculosis, who sought dental care due to a granulomatous asymptomatic ulcerated oral lesion. The patient idling, signs of organic weakness, and a scaly lesion on his left eyebrow. After imaging evaluation, serological and hematological tests, we opted for incisional biopsy of the lesion on outpatient basis. The histopathological finding of H/E staining and Histochemistry in Grocott had conclusive diagnosis for paracoccidioidomycosis. Due to the patient’s weakness, he was referred for treatment in the hospital in the Department for Tropical Medicine, Hospital Professor Edgar Santos, and Federal University of Bahia. Currently, there is no injury, but he is still undergoing treatment. Conclusion: Paracoccidioidomycosis is a severe systemic mycosis, which is a serious problem in countries of Latin America, mainly Brazil. It is necessary that professionals are aware of the disease’s clinical features for a correct diagnosis and referral for appropriate treatment. The participation of Dental Surgeon and Oral Medicine specialist is of paramount importance to establish the differential diagnosis of this injury and referral to specialized medical center, always keeping in touch with the professionals involved in the treatment.
