Abstract

Hungarians in the history of northern France. The study, the first one ever to deal with that question, outlines the relations existing between the north of France and the Hungarians from the end of the Middle Ages to the Liberation. The authors recalls the military campaigns led by Hungarian generals who had fled Hungary and excelled in the Nord ; be then points out the city of Douai at the end of the XVIIIth century where two Magyar-born field officers played an important role. He tells of the activity, partly related with Douai, of the Demeny brothers in the world of letters and cinema. He finally analyses mass movements in the fields of social work and during the last war and resistance period.
