Abstract

From the end of the IVth century onwards, the organizing principle of the Greek associations tends to be the ownership of a common space free from any private use and devoted to the various meetings of the members. This evolution created a dissocation between the political activities and other forms of collective life and the word koinon was to become the exclusive name of any organized group.
