Abstract

Glass aryballos found in Narbonensis, dated between the end of the 1st century AD and the 3rd century AD, mainly come from harbour dumps and bath buildings. Typology, chronology and provenience of these artefacts are successively discussed. This documentation shows that perfumed oils were commercialised throughout the Western Mediterranean at a larger scale than previously assumed. The diversity of the proveniences observed within the Narbonensis finds (Northern provinces, Middle-East, Egypt) has no parallel elsewhere in the Western regions, except on the Croatian coastline. Nevertheless, this statement is perhaps due to a lesser development of the glass studies.
