Abstract

The present article is a philosophical criticism of the apologetics proposed by Kung in his book Does God Exist ? An Answer for Today. According to Kiing, the question of the existence of God is formulated today in function of the confrontation between scientific reason and faith, of a new conception of God alive in history, and of the challenge of atheism and nihilism. Kiing 's answer is in three steps : y es to reality, yes to God, y es to the Christian God. The criticism points out the ambiguities of this undertaking. May reason limit itself to the clarification of the significance of Christian dogma, and may it relegate the foundation of certitude to the freedom of choice ? Without the fundamental certitudes of reason, does not this Fideism exclude the possibility of dialogue with ail men ?
