Abstract

To properly analyze a plywood diaphragm, the diaphragm must be considered flexible, and structural elements that interfere with its deflection must be considered. The presently published formula for plywood diaphragm deflection is only applicable for midspan of a simple rectangular diaphragm with uniform load and uniform nailing. A method is presented for calculating diaphragm deflection of any point with any pattern of loading, including concentrated loads, and with any variation of diaphragm shape or nail spacing.
