Abstract

A simple model for a laser oscillator has been analysed to determine the single mode efficiency for steady state operation at high pumping levels. The analysis takes into account the possibility of changes in the shape of the electromagnetic mode as the pumping rate is increased. Normalised plots of laser efficiency as a function of pumping rate and laser length indicate that changes in mode shape are important at moderate pump levels.
