Abstract

Ecological considerations in urban planning stem mostly from the recent sustainable development requirements. In current urban planning, ecological considerations rarely take ecological network structure into account, which often leads to severe landscape fragmentation, poor patch connectivity and serious threats to urban ecological systems. Improving patch connectivity through ecological networks, a minimum cost distance model was proposed for constructing urban ecological corridors and networks and the established urban ecological networks was optimized by setting up foot stones and source points. The establishment of ecological network of Tianjin City was taken as an example. The importance of ecological corridors was further obtained by gravity model. The results showed that the optimized urban ecological network greatly improved on aspects of the city’s corridor connectivity and network closure.
