Abstract

Two questions are asked : what is the meaning of the word Truth in the Scriptures ? What are the conséquences of the search of this truth for the interprétation ofbiblical texts ? The answer to thefirst question is easy : asfrom the Old Testament, the Truth is the Révélation of God's plan of Salvation. The New Testament adds that this Révélation is accomplished in Jésus- the Truth (John 14,6) and that it is prolongea in the working of the Spirit of Truth. To the hermeneutical question, the answer is equally clear : extract the «Truth» from the Scriptures, means to show its value of révélation, its « Truth of Salvation». The Truth- Révélation of the Scriptures and its historical truth are not identical and, consequently, the historic-critical method cannot, alone, answer the various epistemological and hermeneutical questions. In conclusion one can put the question : should the theological principle of the Inspiration of Scriptures not regain today an important place in biblical hermeneutics ?
