Abstract
Newman questions both pragmatism and clerical dogmatism in education. He verifies that there is unity of truth in the beginning, but not always at the end. He proposes philosophy as an «architectural science», and demands the role of theology in the interdisciplinary dialogue between the sciences. Guardini addresses the question of truth: and relates it with life. Benedict XVI deeply questions both culture and the university: he suggests an openness and an enlargement of modern reason, which enables a dialogue with faith. A theology that has been pariens scientiarum can be now a good collaborator, which serves other sciences well.
