Abstract

That it is possible a relationship between psychoanalysis and rhetorics, has been shown by E. Benveniste, R. Barthes, T. Todorov, and others. In this paper, this relationship is centred in the parallelism between metaphor and metonimy, in the side of rhetorics, and condensation and displacement, in the side of psychoanalysis. The comparison was first made by J. Lacan. Both R. Jakobson and T. Todorov have criticized this relationship, and have posed other similarities between some technical terms of the psychoanalysis and the tropes of the rhetoric. On the basis of the discussion of these terms in S. Freud, a diagram is proposed to show the different positions of R. Jakobson, J. Lacan and T. Todorov about the question.
