Abstract

Taking as starting point the “ Ateneo de la Juventud” writers, we adopt – as much as possible – a chronological order to outline the place occupied by Verhaeren in Mexican literature. We find that although even if the writings referring to the poet – through anthologies or critical articles – were written after his death, they are endowed with such ardor and passion that they are enough to defend his literary work. Consequently, in addition to the imprint left by Verhaeren, the defense itself of his work is also an undeniable proof of its place in the Mexican literature of the early twentieth century.
