Abstract

This paper proposes to look at the interaction between the miter and the Indians of the Archdiocese of Mexico during Manuel Rubio y Salinas prelacy (1749-1765). Some of the most relevant reformist programs related to Indigenous population are examined: the exercise of ecclesiastical justice, the Hispanicization and the control over confraternities. The goal is to show continuities and changes in the ecclesiastical policy of this archbishop; parishioner responses to the projects undertaken are also analyzed.
