The pandemic within dreams. The article aims to analyse different representations of the pandemic within dreams to trace correspondences between the symbolic expressions of the oneiric language and the sociology of the imaginary. The theoreticalmethodological framework of Carl G. Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz guides the articulation of the essay. The unconscious lived through the memory of dreams has the typical and strong tendency to be projected externally, hence the hypothesis that it is possible to grasp its reflections in external reality and the social world. The question to be answered concerns which shared movements are present in the unconscious of individual subjects during the current period dominated by the pandemic and which relationships can be detected between the symbolic material emerging in individual dreams and some contemporary cultural phenomena. The empirical material is drawn from a series of interdisciplinary meetings regarding patients' dreams during the pandemic.

  • I G Utyuzh

Thus, the innovation-creative processes are becoming the societal determinant of modern society, culture, education, education revolution and personality. These processes are the mechanisms of the implementation of civilization nature of modernity. Man in the world - is a creator. The most important social need is in the creation of the new, and it is closely intertwined with purposeful practical activities. The interest to the new acts as a demiurgic and emotional power prompting to the action and to receiving the results of the action. A person can be represented as a cognitive system, characterized by intellectual tendency of reflection and rethinking of the world and the social processes that are inherent in the content of modern civilization. Consequently, to identify the specificity and considering this aspect to build ways of the development of modern civilization, it is necessary to pay special attention to the nature, content and socio-functional orientation of the creative activity of the person (man, the individual, individuals, entity). Personalism, in our understanding, is a creative substance, constantly developing (evolving), it is based on individual and personal aspiration (creative impulse) of each individual to self-expression, search and active adaptation, the use of existing cultural forms and processes. Personalism has become a form by which all the tumult of wealth and innovation processes of our century has been crystallized. Personalism, therefore, in the modern world (the culture of the XXI century), is the only and indivisible entire with innovative processes that increasingly cover the modern world. Personalism and innovation are paradigmatic phenomena of contemporary culture; the comprehension of them is the key to the answer to many vital but unsolved problems of being an individual. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to study innovation processes as the paradigm of education and phenomenon of contemporary culture.

LIFE STRUGGLE OF THE PROTAGONIST IN NARA LAHMUSI’S NOVEL A SKY FULL OF STARS
  • May 18, 2025
  • JOURNAL OF LANGUAGE
  • Suci Mulia Dewi + 1 more

This study investigates the life struggles experienced by the protagonist in A Sky Full of Stars by Nara Lahmusi, focusing on her journey toward achieving personal dreams while simultaneously addressing familial obligations. The research aims to analyze the internal and external factors that shape the protagonist's hardships. Internal factors include her perfectionism, strong sense of self-priority, and inner ambition, which drive her personal goals but also contribute to emotional and psychological pressure. In contrast, external factors such as economic limitations and societal expectations impose constraints that complicate her efforts. By examining the interaction between these two dimensions, the study reveals how the protagonist's development is influenced by the dynamic tension between individual aspiration and external reality. The findings suggest that the complexity of her struggle lies in the convergence of personal desires and external demands, which not only affects her decisions but also frames the broader thematic structure of resilience and self-determination in the novel.

Today, significant changes are taking place in the approach to the study of many sociocultural phenomena. Duality and polarity of their perception and analysis are being mitigated, alternative facets of the familiar and the generally accepted are coming to light, a number of “marginal” ideas are becoming the “new norm”. The research paradigm of the 20th – 21st centuries pays special attention to non-binary gender. Modern researchers focus on such issues as self-identification and search for gender identity, mechanisms of gender construction, variability of sex-role and identification models, non-conventional forms of gender identity (transgender and agender, intersexuality, etc.), as well as their representation in contemporary culture. One of such nonconventional phenomena of culture today is intersexuality, the current form of the well-known philosophical idea of androgyny. Intersex as a phenomenon of contemporary culture is considered as an element of the emerging non-binary gender system. Nowadays, intersex is not only the denomination of a person with biological characteristics atypical of the binary gender paradigm, but also the name of a distinctive culture discussing the problems of this new kind of people, who have become a significant part of our society. This article studies the representation of the intersex phenomenon in contemporary culture through the lens of cinematography. The sociocultural status of intersexuality explains the increasing quantity and thematic diversity of cinematic material. Intersexuality is a subject of active artistic reflection of many contemporary directors (L. Puenzo, C. Lavagna, J. Solomonoff, R. Féret, S. Savory, etc.), the discussion of acute social, legal and ethical problems being their focus. Thus, the leading themes are as follows: self-identification of intersex people and their search for gender identity; the problem of medicalization of intersex people and the legality of “corrective”/ “normalizing” operations from both medical and ethical points of view; parent–intersex child relationship; socialization of intersex teenagers and social acceptance of this new type of person.

The paper focuses on the current situation of the discipline of comparative literature (“indiscipline”), particularly on the present condition and tasks of intermedial comparative literature. In the latest humanities intermediality permits to examine all possible connections and fusions of arts which have existed since the ancient times till the 21st century (i.a. so-called intermedial literature) and to describe today’s social communication. The author refers to intermediality as a phenomenon of contemporary culture (intermedial art and cultural communication in the era of new media), modern literature, intermedial comparative literature and intermedial studies, and to the condition of a man in the media society (the inevitable process of “expanding” the perception). In this context, he argues that intermedial comparative literature should develop a new version of audio-visual anthropology.

The question is in many parts, yet it comes to this: can we perceive a new phenomenon in contemporary culture generally, and in contemporary literature particularly, that deserves a name? If so, will the provisional rubric postmodernism serve? How does this phenomenon-let us call it postmodernism-relate itself to other concepts, such as modernism or the avant-garde? And what theoretical and historical difficulties does it conceal?

Review of the Dictionary “Ecology of Human Existence. Part II. Media Ecology”
  • Dec 12, 2022
  • Galactica Media: Journal of Media Studies
  • Dmitry V Solomko

The subject of this review is the second part of the information-military dictionary “Ecology of human existence: media ecology”. The dictionary presents the theme of media ecology or ecology of communications through a number of terms in the aspect of the ecohumanist approach. The authors of the vocabulary articles developed and used it as a new methodology in the study and understanding of the capabilities of modern digital technologies that form the information environment for the existence of a contemporary human. The editors and authors of the vocabulary set a goal of carrying out a philosophical interpretation of the technical and technological conditions of human ‘in-der-Welt-Sein’, in the aspect of information environment (media space), and propose a new, namely, eco-humanistic approach for solving the main problems of the relationship “human – technical and technological world”. The texts of vocabulary articles substantiate the thesis that the capabilities and power of modern digital technologies actualize the need for an eco-humanistic measurement of the relationship “human – technical and technological world”, which does not pre-refuse digital technologies, but means the optimal use of all technological tools, taking into account the detection and preservation of their humanistic potential. The review pays attention to the specifics of the theoretical development of the eco-humanistic approach and its main principles: integrity, optimality, coordination, and eco-systemity. As a result of the analysis the reviewer concludes that the eco-humanistic approach proposed and used by the authors will allow to study and explore the processes and phenomena of contemporary culture in a multidimensional manner, to receive a more accurate interpretation of the ways of human existence and eco-cultural practices that ensure the effect of the staneity of the “ecosystems” in the situations of any intensive technological transformations.

  • Iryna Chaiun

The article explores the main approaches to the typology of intermediality as a phenomenon of contemporary culture, art, and linguistics. Intermediality, understood as the interaction and intersection of different semiotic systems has become an essential aspect of modern communication and textual analysis. The study highlights the challenges in classifying intermedial phenomena, including the fluidity of media boundaries, the complexity of constructing universal theoretical models, and the dynamic nature of interpretation across various disciplines. Special attention is given to the methodological difficulties associated with intermediality research, particularly the need for integrative approaches that combine linguistic, semiotic, cultural, and media studies perspectives. The article emphasizes the importance of developing comprehensive typological frameworks to better understand the mechanisms of intermedial interaction. Furthermore, the study outlines the prospects for advancing typological approaches, particularly their significance for interdisciplinary research and their integration into contemporary scholarly discourse. A systematic classification of intermediality models is proposed, and the necessity of expanding methodological tools for analyzing this phenomenon is substantiated. The findings suggest that further exploration of intermediality can contribute to a deeper understanding of meaning-making processes in multimodal communication, as well as foster new directions in linguistic and media studies.

“Adult” as a Concept for Young People Building their Life Course
  • Mar 3, 2016
  • Russian Education & Society
  • E.S Pavlenko

The structure of Russians' life course has never been studied in depth; the only exception is demographic studies regarding marital status and age at childbirth. Principles that define life trajectories should also be examined. The “adult” concept is one of a number of important concepts in the general structure of life planning. This article presents an agenda for future research based on several case studies obtained during a longitudinal study of educational and occupational trajectories. Studying the transition into adulthood is an important resource for understanding the modern times. However, another option is also possible. This concept of transition into adulthood can also be considered as a phenomenon of contemporary culture. The research perspective of cultural sociology, whose methodology is described as structural hermeneutics, can serve these purposes. Structural hermeneutics refers to an analysis of the structure of senses both intersubjective and collectively shared. It is important to analyze how the adult concept is used with regard to the structure of the life course in materials from Russian studies, with account for the ambivalence of this concept and research conducted in other countries.

Role Of Mythologization And Personification Of The Image And Its Symbolic Nature
  • Mar 29, 2019
  • Andzhela V Gucheva* + 4 more

Relevance of the topic of myth in ritual practices of the Circassian (Adyg) is in their conceptually new perception in modern culture. Mythology and personification of Pantheon deities and protectors covers the semantic and translational levels in cooperation with the representation and structure of ritual activities. The paper deals with the reconstruction and reinterpretation in the ancient Circassian (Adyg) mythological system followed by identification of similar rituals, issues of plot borrowing, as well as disclosure of symbols in the interaction with the archetypal mythological structure and musical insonation in ritual via instrumental tunes or songs in honour of deity. The musical instrument in the rite was an Adyg pipe called Kamil that hasa sacred power of divine origin and a border between the human ancestor and deities.Currently reinterpretation of archetypal mythological structures, plots, characters and images lead to a new worldview in mythology. Itgives them the second life as a phenomenon of contemporary culture from the viewpoint of archaic mythological representation of images and symbols. Common feature of archaic cultural levels is a single system of transmission, awareness about sacred ritual and sounds to achieve necessary benefits for the existence and development of the mankind in the world.

The Phenomenon of Post-irony and Meta-irony in Contemporary Culture: Content and Context
  • Jan 1, 2024
  • Koinon
  • A V Kolosov

Post- and meta-ironies are phenomena of contemporary culture. Their manifestations are visible at all its levels, from the academic to the everyday. They are so striking that it is possible to discuss their influence on the condition of contemporary cultural standards. However, their conceptualization is still in the process, is realized only by a part of the community, which hinders the entry of these concepts and terms into the active cultural circulation and broad mass culture, leading to their discrepancies and variations in interpretation. But without an understanding of such phenomena it is virtually impossible to consider contemporary social interactions. In this article we propose an ontological retrospective of the term irony and its actual semantic derivatives, as well as an attempt to streamline its varieties, and consider the forms of interrelation with the socio-cultural space.

SPORT U ZAMCI GLOBALIZACIJE: MEDIJSKI SPEKTAKL, IDEOLOŠKI INSTRUMENT I UNIVERZALNO SREDSTVO KOMUNIKACIJE
  • Jan 1, 2020
  • Slobodan Penezic

This text tends to shed light on the current position and role of sport, as a kind of contemporary phenomenon, which follows the outlines of dominant global trends, but which, therefore, causes various consequences for individuals, groups and entire societies. It is the result of the analysis of this phenomenon done during the preparation of the master thesis “Sport as a Phenomenon of Contemporary Culture” at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Belgrade, and therefore includes one part of it. In considering the phenomenon itself, it starts from the perspective of contemporary cultural studies and tries to see the place of sport in current social movements. Thus, the accent is on its place and role, and also on the causes and consequences of the process of which it is obviously a part of. Starting from its primary features and functions, the focus is on those elements that are an evident part of every sporting event today; the positive ones, which encourage models of behaviour that bring the modern individual closer to the ancient ideals of the athlete, but also the negative ones, which are the reverse of such aspirations, and which today, due to these global trends, are accompanied by the race for money and popularity. These are negativities that have become a completely acceptable component of sport over time, and the consequences of which, however, are not talked about enough, although they are often in the foreground, pushing to the margin those original motives of chivalry and Olympism. In that way, the very essence of the existence of sport and sports competitions is gradually being suppressed.

The subject of this study is an almost completely forgotten chapter of the early literary work of Antoni Słonimski, which is his precursory activity on the ground of Polish film criticism of the years 1922-1923 in the columns of the all-Polish daily Kurier Polski. He had his own column there titled "Kinematograph" (Cinematograph). His essays on the cinema were written in the form of light feuilletons. Referring to the current repertoire of Warsaw cinemas, A. Słonimski tried as much as he could to go beyond the current premieres. He interested in a wider perspective which allows to describe cinema as a phenomenon of contemporary culture.
