La mobilité intra-urbaine à Paris et dans l'Ile-de-France au XXe siècle : l'exemple des familles du Bottin mondain

Abstract

This papers looks at the question of intra-urban mobility of families appearing in the Bottin Mondain throughout the XXth century. By comparing the families' addresses year after year, their itineraries can be reconstituted and their moves dated. This study concentrates on families in Paris and the bordering departements (lesser and greater rings). Families in the Bottin live in the VIIth, VIIIth, XVIth and XVIIth districts and when they move, they migrate south-west. At first, the XVIth district, especially the Muette and Auteuil neighbourhoods, was the principal pole of attraction. Today, the Hauts-de-Seine townships have assumed this role, joined more recently by those of the Yvelines. The residents of fashionable neighbourhoods have tended to move westward or further to the Hauts-de-Seine and north-east to the Yvelines largely because the business centre of Paris has been transferred to the centre-west of the city. The frequency of moves has also increased regularly over the century : today's families are more mobile than their forebears.
