Abstract

In the plain of Montpellier, preventive excavations realized to the Claou de las Olivetas brought to light, after a punctual activity of Republican period, a small farm fitted out in Ist century AD, deserted in the 2nd and reoccupied in the late IVth century. Buildings, of low extent, testify of an activity of mixed farming associating vineyard and cereal. Several enclosures fitted out in the close environment of the establishment, as well as a pond, also plead in favour of a pastoral activity. The late reoccupation also testifies of a craft activity of boilermaking. Nine graves accompany the settlement of the IVth century and complete the image of this type of underestimated, secondary settlement of a domanial establishment or a seat of a small exploitation.
