Abstract

Summary : Picture naming : Theories and data. This paper surveys recent developments of theories of picture naming. In a first part, current models of picture naming, specifically the logogen model, the two-step model, and the cascade model, are described. Then we present a multiple activation model of picture naming in which we assume that both a direct (non-semantic) and an indirect (semantic) route can be used. The second part surveys the main experimental results obtained with normals (frequency effects, repetition priming, semantic and phonological priming) and neurologically impaired patients (phonological and semantic anomia). Key words : picture naming, phonological and semantic priming.
