Abstract

The Valencian linguistic conflict in a sociolinguistic context marked by the – structural and social – penetration of the Spanish language and by disconcerning symptoms of linguistic substitution, becomes a politicosocial battle in which ideologic strategies lead to all kinds of statements. So the linguistic philological and sociolinguistic approaches prove insufficient on evaluating the formal care of the language and the slowing down – if not inversion – of its functional dismantling. This contribution aims at positioning the Valencian standardisation process, that is supervised by the Valencian Language Academy (Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua), in the context of ideologically interpreting a disagreement that hardly allows for the establishment of a consensual codification.
