Abstract
Palabras Clave: democracia, populismo, UCeDé, Modín, derecha radical Democracy as a Problem and Populism as a Solution. An Exploration of the Argentine Radical Right since the Democratic Transition Abstract With the arrival of Javier Milei to the presidency of the country, debates have been reactivated about the relationship between right-wing politics and democracy, whether concerning the role of democracy as a concept within right-wing discourses and ideologies, or regarding the adherence of right-wing groups in practice to the institutional norms of democracy as a political regime. In this article, we aim to reconstruct the process of how Argentine right-wing groups have adapted to democracy, understood as a problem, in dialogue with the adoption of another Argentine political tradition, populism, proposed as a solution to that problem. To this end, the article seeks to analyze the role of democracy and populism in the two main radical right-wing party organizations in Argentina since the democratic opening: the Democratic Union of the Center (UCeDé) and the Movement for Dignity and Independence (Modín). Finally, the article aims to explore the continuities and ruptures with which a new radical right, now in power, updates the tensions between political rightism, democracy, and populism.Key words: populism, democracy, UCeDé, Modín, derecha radical ARK CAICYT: https://id.caicyt.gov.ar/ark:/s16668979/3b7d57aou
